Adam Thorp, of Burneside near Kendal, is enjoying his second kitchen created by Webbs of Kendal. He had one of their designs in his first house and now, after a beautiful installation in the home he shares with his three children, he wouldn’t buy from anyone else.

I THOUGHT I HAD QUITE A STRONG FEELING FOR WHAT I WANTED.

Part of my own work is design for businesses, so I drew some rough plans and passed them to the companies we had asked to tender for the work. They came back with pretty much what I had designed, maybe with little bits different, but nothing too dramatic, and the prices were really quite high.

I LET BEN MONAGHAN AT WEBBS HAVE A LOOK FROM A CREATIVE POINT OF VIEW.

I wrongly thought I couldn’t afford his designs yet he made something that I would never have imagined. The clean lines, the grey and white colour scheme, the co-ordinating glass splash-backs and the sleek appliances – it’s just a really lovely, lovely space.

THE LAYOUT OF THE DESIGN TOTALLY CHANGED THE DYNAMIC OF THE SPACE.

It was more appealing to the eye and more dramatic than the ideas I had. But the best thing about the whole project was that Webbs were the only company which came in on budget, and they designed something that is far superior to what I thought was possible in this space.

WHEN BEN TALKED ME THROUGH THE APPLIANCES, THEY WERE BETTER THAN WE EVER EXPECTED.

We have a beautiful grey induction hob, Neff appliances throughout, and a chandelier extractor fan which lights up. It is absolutely stunning. Webbs definitely didn’t skimp on the specification, that’s for sure.

THIS KITCHEN HAS BEEN IN NEARLY THREE YEARS NOW BUT IT’S ALL ABOUT THE QUALITY.

The fit, the cabinets, the carcasses – not one thing has failed. That says a lot.

THE KITCHEN WAS PART OF A SUBSTANTIAL REMODEL OF THE GROUND FLOOR OF THE HOUSE…

…so Ben and his team fitted in around all our building contractors. We were probably quite a problematic client but we didn’t feel like it at any point.

IT’S A GREAT SPACE AND IT’S THE MOST USED ROOM IN THE HOUSE.

The kitchen island always has all sorts going on whether that’s homework, painting, drawing or whatever. Now and again we do some cooking as well!

AT NIGHT, ALL THE LIGHTS CHANGE AND IT CREATES A REAL WARMTH. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT.

As a designer I know that lighting can change your mood and atmosphere and create different zones so, with Ben’s help, we tried to focus on where we could hide lights.

WE USED COLOUR-CHANGING LED STRIPS…

…so throughout the night and day this room can have a personality of its own, whether you want to get cosy in winter or have a party feel.

I’M A STICKLER FOR ATTENTION TO DETAIL.

As I was coming up with ideas Ben made them better. He listened. It was a breath of fresh air.
